"Watamote" / "Watashi ga motenai no wa dou kangaetemo omaera ga warui!" , "A Certain Magical Index‡U", "Hataraku Maou-sama" , "Eden of the East" , "Darker Than Black"

It’s been a long time. This time I’ll introduce you the place called Shinjuku! When you hear Tokyo, the places you will think of are Akihabara, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Ginza, Ikebukuro. Foreign otaku often hear “Kabukicho” which is a popular red light district in Shinjuku. To tell you the truth, I didn’t have much interest in going to Shinjuku because there are only skyscrapers and not much of entertainment for a otaku like me. But after going there, I thought, maybe it wasn’t such a bad place.
Well, let’s put that aside and start our journey. As always, I start from Ayase Station (Chiyoda Line). From there, the cheapest route to Shinjuku is to change trains in Kokkai-gijidou-mae Station to Marunouchi Line (bound for Ogikubo) and get off at Shinjuku Station. Be careful, there are 3 stations with Shinjuku on them which are Shinjuku Gyoen-mae Station, Shinjuku 3-choume Station and Shinjuku Station. You can get off at the station you like but this time I got off at Shinjuku Station.
Once you get off, head to the A17 exit and you’ll arrive in the basement of Shinjuku L Tower. There is one of the places that appear in "Darker Than Black". It is also a place where office workers smoke in the morning, so I couldn’t take a photo. There’s the stairs where Hei and Chiaki rested in the second episode, "The Star of Contract Flowed ... Part". L Tower also appears in "A Certain Magical Index‡U".

There is a unique building called Cocoon Tower near the L Tower. It is also the Tokyo Mode Gakuen. A professional school where you can learn fashion, make-up and design. It’s a classy school and the shape of the building is also cool.

There is also Seiji Togo Memorial Sompo Japan Museum of Art nearby. One of the exhibition works is Vincent van Gogh’s "Sunflower". Please visit there if you are interested in art.

There is a Shinjuku police station back intersection near the museum. This place is one of the places that appear in the "Hataraku Maou-Sama". By the way, the intersection here appears in "Natsume Yuujinchou” too.
  The thing above is amazing.
This LOVE monument really stands out.
The LOVE monument from the back.
On the back of the monument, there’s Tokyo Island Tower. This tower appears in “A Certain Magical Index‡U”
Next walk to Kabukicho from Tokyo Island Tower. I found some interesting places on the way. Here's Shinjuku Culinary school. You can’t enter, but if you look at the site, the facility is amazing!

Here's Takarazuka University. There is one in Hyogo Prefecture too (Art faculty). The one’s in Shinjuku is media content faculty. There are Manga area, illustration area, games area, animation area, video area, and content design area. If you are interested take a look at the site.

And there is Office24 Studio next to the university. It's a 3D printing studio. Well, the price is high, but if you want to print a 3D model on your own, it’s better than buying a 3D printer.

Walk towards Kabukicho and you’ll see Jouenji (Jouen Temple) on the left and soon you’ll arrive at Shinjuku West Large Guard (Dai Ga-do). This place appears in the anime Hanasaku Iroha.
There’s so many people…
Cross the road and you’ll see LABI. (It’s practically Yamada Denki, one of the famous electric store in Japan) This area appears in Eden of the East and “Watamote” (Watashi ga motenai no wa dou kangaetemo omaera ga warui!)
It’s the gate of Kabukicho.
When I faced back, I’m surprised to see the name of the university I’m going to (Digital Hollywood University). The animations that the seniors have made are shown there.
The atmosphere of Kabukicho.
There are a lot of internet cafe and manga cafe here in Kabukicho. Here's one of them.
Well, it’s a red-light district, so it’s normal to have fishy places.
Walk to the north and you can see Milano Za. Because it’s under construction, it’s a little different than the Milano that appears in "Hataraku Maou-sama" and "Darker Than Black".
Now playing : Transformers Lost Age, LUCY and The Amazing Spiderman 2.
Behind Milano there’s Seibu Shinjuku Station.
When I walked to the gate of Kabukicho from there, I found an interesting sign. It’s the robot restaurant. It seems interesting and there seems to be shows too, but it’s quite expensive. It’s around 6,000 yen. Well, it’s a normal price for shows though.

There is a Don Quijote chain in Kabukicho. Don Quijote is like a department store but it’s a little ... strange or maybe you could say magical. It’s difficult to explain, but, well, it's where they sell interesting things in cheap prices.
This is the Bic Camera in Shinjuku. Yodobashi Camera, Bic Camera and Yamada Denki are famous consumer electronics retailers in Japan. There’s all of them in Shinjuku. By the way, Yamada Denki's LABI are on the previous photo.
Here's ALTA. They sell clothes mainly, but there are others like CD shop, sundries, also florist. But I like Animega the best! Animega is the name of the store that sells anime goods. From small figures to put in a cup of tea to bath towels, a variety of anime goods are sold here. There are also light novels and manga, and drama CDs. The place like heaven to people like me, an otaku. I bought several things. The taiyaki croissant in front of ALTA also looks delicious.

By the way, the things that I bought are these! Haikyu card case, Free (Haru)’s wooden strap and Rejet’s Wasurenagusa stickers. (They’re Okita Souji and Yamazaki Susumu)
I've never seen such a large Kinokuniya. I think there should be a larger one than this, but this is the biggest I’ve ever seen.
These places don’t appear in any anime but I just want to introduce you that there are places like these in Shinjuku. The sky was dark and that’s not because it was late, it was raining that time. (Around 14:00) Here's ISETAN and Marui (OIOI) Shinjuku. These two are famous department stores. There are also Takashimaya, Odakyu, Keio, LUMINE, and Mylord. And Shinjuku has them all! Please go there if you love shopping and fashion or maybe window shopping.
This is a display of ISETAN. Since it changes very often, it’s interesting to see.
Here's Shinjuku Gyoen. It’s a national park and it’s famous in Tokyo. It’s also a large park with Japanese plants and foreign plants. It’s closed on New Year and every Monday. It opens from 9:00 to 16:00. Since I went on Monday, unfortunately, the park was closed. The admission for adults (high school and up) is ¥ 200 and ¥ 50 for elementary and junior high school students, and free for infants. So cheap! It has very beautiful sakura trees blooming in spring. Please visit here by all means.
It’s time to go home. I could go back to Shinjuku Station but it’s much easier to just take a train from Shinjuku Gyoen-mae Station. I can’t really recommend otaku to go here to Shinjuku (there’s not much things that otaku likes here not like Akihabara, but there is an anime shop). I would recommend Shinjuku for people who maybe want to play at Kabukicho, people who want to go to Shinjuku Gyoen, people who like shopping (either for fashion or electrical appliance) and people who are interested in vocational schools and universities that was introduced!
